KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen police have confirmed they are investigating an incident that occurred at the Killeen mall on Saturday night, with reports of injuries.

The police department reassured the public via their Facebook page that "the area is secure at this time" and urged everyone to avoid the vicinity while first responders carry out their investigation.

Social media buzzed with rumors, including claims of an active shooter, which Killeen police promptly refuted. "There is no active shooter at the Killeen Mall," they stated. "DPS, KFD, and KPD are on the scene investigating this incident. We strongly advise citizens to stay clear of the Killeen Mall for their safety."

According to a police spokesperson, the situation began with a chase that started in Belton and concluded at the mall. Social media images suggested that a vehicle may have crashed into the entrance of JC Penney.
